Eat These 7 Snacks To Slim Down

You are not always at home when the urge to snack hits you. All your healthy and nutritious snacks are in your pantry and not in your bag because you had to rush out of the door this morning. What can you snack on that will not sabotage your weight loss efforts?

#1: Walnuts & Almonds

These nuts are filled with good fats and protein and satiate the need to nibble. A handful equates to about 30 grams. If you have big hands, rather weigh them out, or buy a packet of 30 grams. Eat slowly, enjoying every bite. Drink two glasses of water with it to make you feel fuller.

#2: Dried Fruit

Fruit is fruit whether it is dehydrated or not. The challenge however is to feel the same after having a prune instead of a juicy plum. One prune seems so small, but carries the same calo-ries as the plum, minus the water. If you have a craving for a fruit but do not have a fresh fruit nearby, then have a dried one, but keep in mind that one dried fruit equals one fresh fruit.

#3: Peanut Butter on toast, celery or even a slice of apple

Nice and creamy peanut butter spread on Burgen rye, or as part of ants on a log (celery filled with peanut butter topped with raisins) or even as a dip for your apple pieces, is a great pro-tein filler. I must warn you this is so yummy, that you will be tempted to have more than you need. Just pack enough for one snack, and do not indulge too much.

#4: Kale Chips

O yum! This superfood makes a delicious snack and is a guiltless treat that you can have any place, any time. Take a bunch of kale, wash it, drizzle olive oil over, bake at a low heat until crunchy, season with herbs and spices or just coarse salt, and voila! Enjoy!

#5: Chickpeas

Bake the chick peas for a crunchy protein filled snack. Or whip it up as humus and eat it with vegetable sticks.

#6: Oatmeal

Oatmeal is such a versatile food, it is even the ingredient of pancake recipes. If you are in the mood for an energising snack, then have a look at the recipes combining oatmeal, cottage cheese, egg whites, baking powder and sweetener. Whip up a batch, freeze a few, and grab a bag when you leave home. Add fresh berries later during the day, and enjoy the feeling of bliss as you bite into your snack.

#7: Protein Shake

Protein shakes come in all flavours and are part of many recipes. Sometimes keeping it simple is the way to go. Add your water, ice and shake away. Sip it slowly and enjoy.
