40 Plus? Turn Back The Clock with The THRIVE Method

As a man, you’ve seen your body change as you age. You may have noticed subtle changes in your waistline and an increasing tendency to gain weight fast; or maybe your hairline no longer starts where it used to and an extra wrinkle on your forehead starts to show.

What Really Happens To Your Body When You Turn 40 Plus?

As we  grow older, we’ll continue to see changes throughout our bodies. While some of these changes cannot be avoided, our lifestyle choices– including diet and exercise– can make a huge difference in how quickly we age. A number of changes happen to our bodies when we hit 40, namely:

1

Heart Rate Decline

Older hearts can’t beat as fast as younger hearts. Our heart muscle becomes less able to propel large quantities of blood quickly to the body, which in turn, causes our aerobic capacity to decrease.  This is why we tire more quickly and take longer to recover.

2

Blood Vessels Stiffen

As we age, our blood vessels become less pliable and flexible, making it harder for the blood to flow easily through them. This leads to high blood pressure and increases our risk of heart attack and stroke.

3

Bones, Ligaments, & Tendons Weaken

Older adults are prone to developing osteoporosis because our bones typically become less dense and more fragile with age. Our ligaments also become less elastic, which reduces our  flexibility. Our tendons, on the other hand, become stiffer and  less able to tolerate stress as their water content decreases over time.

4

Muscle Mass Decline

The natural decline of testosterone– the hormone that stimulates protein synthesis and muscle growth among men– is among the factors that potentially causes loss of muscle mass. This condition causes us to be physically weak and less mobile, increasing our risk of falls and fractures.

5

Nervous System Changes

We lose thousands of nerve cells each day as we grow older. However, unlike the other cell types in the body, nerve cells are believed to be incapable of regenerating. This results in memory lapses, decreased sensation, slower reflexes, and clumsiness as people grow older.

The Thrive Method

Our bodies were made to move. As we grow older, it’s important to keep moving so that we stay mobile, flexible, and strong.

Fitness and overall wellness at any age should be viewed as something we get to do versus something we have to do.

Having this perspective promotes longevity and keeps us feeling great well into our golden years.

It pays to be mindful of your ageing body and keep it in shape as you pass 40. With the right push and proper guidance, you should be able to stay strong and live a longer, healthier life.

And then you can truly say that “Age is just a number”.

My name is Steve Sharkey, your Personal Trainer & Lifestyle Coach. I’ve been in Health & Fitness for 30 years, specialising in weight-loss (reducing body fat) and muscle toning.

Since you’re here, I reckon that you’re currently exploring your options in transforming your body and perhaps jumpstarting healthy changes in your life. I’d like to tell you two things before we proceed. First, what you’re doing now is a good start; and second, you’ve come to the right place.

I wish I could tell you that we could escape from ageing together, but that’s a flight of fancy. But what I can do for you is even better: I can help you embrace ageing while guiding you in slowing down the process.

Together, we will build a 12-Week Success Plan. Instead of the ‘Eat less, Move More’ approach which is a short-term fix, the plan will be consistent with your goals, values, habits, & behaviours. The THRIVE Method follows a  holistic approach to health & fitness, thus, the plan will include improving other lifestyle factors like Sleep, Mindset, & Relationships, along with Nutrition & Exercise.

It won’t cost anything to get started, but you’ll have to pass one of our 2 week challenges so that we know you’re serious:
