Personal Trainer for Women over 40

40 Plus? Turn Back The Clock with The THRIVE Method

They say 40 is the new 30, thanks to access to better nutrition and healthier habits. However, weight gain remains a constant struggle for women, especially as they enter their 40s.

Turning 40 is no picnic, and it doesn’t get any easier after that. As you grow older, you’ll continue to see changes throughout your body, both pleasant and unpleasant. The good news is, you’re not at all helpless and powerless to do anything to change things for the better. While some of these changes cannot be avoided, your lifestyle choices– including diet and exercise– can actually help in slowing down the ageing process.

What Really Happens To Your Body When You Turn 40 Plus?

1

Heart Rate Decline

Older hearts can’t beat as fast as younger hearts. Your heart muscle becomes less able to propel large quantities of blood quickly to the body, which in turn, causes your aerobic capacity to decrease.  This is why you may have noticed yourself getting tired more quickly and taking longer to recover.

2

Blood Vessels Stiffen

As you age, your blood vessels become less pliable and flexible, making it harder for the blood to flow easily through them. This leads to high blood pressure and increases your risk of heart attack and stroke.

3

Bones, Ligaments, & Tendons Weaken

Older adults are prone to osteoporosis because bones become less dense with age, especially after menopause. While it’s believed that genetics and lifestyle have something to do with ligament and tendon ageing, the hormonal changes that come with ageing greatly contribute to this as well.

4

Muscle Mass Decline

Muscle mass typically diminishes with age. Women over  40, however, lose muscle mass twice as fast as men because of decreased estrogen, which plays an important role in muscle growth and strength. Crash diets and lack of exercise can lead to even more muscle mass loss.

5

Fat Increases

After 40, your hormone levels (estrogen) drop, which causes your metabolism to slow down. These hormonal changes make it harder for you to keep a healthier body weight. Your fat distribution changes along. You get less fat deposited in the arms, legs, hips, and butt, while more grows in the belly area.

The Thrive Method

Our bodies were made to move. As we grow older, it’s important to keep moving so that we stay mobile, flexible, and strong. Fitness and overall wellness at any age should be viewed as something we get to do versus something we have to do. Having this perspective promotes longevity and keeps us feeling great well into our golden years.

It pays to be mindful of your ageing body and keep it in shape as you pass 40. With the right push and proper guidance, you should be able to stay strong and live a longer, healthier life. And then you can truly say that “Age is just a number”.
