What Motivate You?

What Motivates You?

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? ” 1

Marianne Williamson, writer of the book, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles on A course to Miracles, further continues that we were meant to shine, and as we allow ourselves to shine, we also give others permission to do the same. I love the piece where she says that as we are liberated from our own fear, our presence also liberates others.

Why Do We Join A Gym?

Many people join a gym only to stop going after six months. Is it because they do not want health and fitness badly enough?

I do not think that is the case. I think it may be a case of their goals not meeting their vision. I believe many people are not clear on what their vision in life is, and because of that, they do not set goals that fit in with their life’s journey.

Have you ever tried the five times why trick?

 It works something like this:

You: “I want to join a gym.”

Why?

You: “Because I want to be fit and healthy.”

Why?

You: “Because I do not feel fit and healthy at the moment.”

Why?

You: “Because I have been making wrong decisions regarding my health and fitness.”

Why?

You: “Because I have been too busy.”

Why have you been too busy to take care of the only body you have?

You: “Because I wanted to keep everybody else happy.”

And there you have it! Instead of being motivated by the urge to be healthier, look better, relieve your stress or to be strong, you will find that your motivation will come from the fact that you now understand that YOU matter. That by trying to keep every one else happy on their terms, you lost yourself in this thing called ‘busyness’.

You now understand that your vision of a healthier and fitter you, will add much more benefit to yourself, but not only yourself, to the ones you love as well.

Consistently making time to work on your fitness and your health sends a powerful message to others.  It tells them that you value yourself enough to make the time for yourself, and it tells them that you value them, because you want to be your healthiest and your fittest for their benefit – so that you are a joy to be around.

Your task until my next newsletter is to uncover your vision. Use the five times why trick if you want.  Write it down. Look at the answer to your fifth why, and write a vision surrounding that.

Now set yourself some goals.  Remember to keep them SMART. (Simple, measurable, achievable, realistic and set a time to it.)

Let me know how you went, I enjoy your feedback.
