Fat Loss Made Simple

Fat loss, weight loss, toning up, bulking up, firming up or what ever you want to call this journey you are on, has never been a more lucrative business. Every body who is a somebody is touting one or other plan, some or other miracle cure, peddling promises of a happier life when you achieve a certain look.

The food business is all around us. There are TV shows with voluptuous goddesses and creamy desserts, or cooking competitions overloading our culinary senses, causing us to run to the closest grocery store for ingredients of a smorgasbord of delicatessen that will satisfy a craving, but not meet our nutritional fat loss needs.

We do not eat to live anymore, instead we now live to eat.

“Steve, where do I start? There is such an information overload out there. The one site says add whey protein, the other site says add glucosamine. Then I still have to buy all the vitamin supplements that every site that professes to be an expert on fitness wants to sell as well. This is just getting too much!” I know, and I understand and my advice is, “Keep it simple.”

Choose a maximum of 9 dinner meals a month, and repeat those. Once again, keep it simple. Protein, vegetables and a modest serving of grains is all you need. No elaborate recipes that will keep you busy for hours in the kitchen. Have a good supply of spices and voila! you can conjure up a fat burning optimising meal fit for a king in a matter of minutes.

I have a client who prepared 25 dinner meals during a weekend, put it in  ziplock bags in her freezer. She would take a bag in the morning and put it in the crockpot before her day starts, or just put it in the fridge to defrost in the morning, to be stovetop ready when she gets home.  She told me that it saved them so much money, because the temptation to go out for dinner was minimised by her planning. They ate at home more often, which is also a key to weight loss because going out leads to a glass of wine, and even a decadent dessert after a dinner did not adhere to portion sizes at all.

Let’s have a look at easy and simple brekkie ideas that are geared for burning fat:

– Good ol’ egg whites, veggies and toast
– rolled oats, fruit and protein shake
– sandwich with lean turkey slices and egg

When you plan, and you have the ingredients ready, you are halfway there. Take the emotion out of the eating, eat because your body needs fuel, not because you have an emotion that you want to mask.

Lunch can be equally easy and simple:

– Chicken salad with a lot of greens
– Tuna salad combined with greens and brown rice
– Rye sandwich, with a protein and greens

Some dinner ideas:

– White fish can be cooked, grilled, steamed and baked. If you have a variety of spices  you can have it many times a week, and do something different every time.

– Chicken is equally versatile, roast, bake, grill, bbq, take your pick and load up on   fresh salad, roasted vegetables or even fresh veggies.

The longer you eat food as close to its natural form as possible, the processed foods’ tastes will be quite unappetising. I have found that even lollies tend to become overly sweet.

Cut out refined sugar and/or corn syrup, fried and/or fatty foods and processed foods with chemical additives. Those TV dinners last so long in the fridge because they are pumped with all the chemical nasties.

The key to making fat loss less complicated is to keep it simple and keep hacking away at it. Rome was not built in a day. Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare?  Who won in the end?

My passion is to help my clients achieve a balance in their lives. Whether you are one of the clients I train one on one in the gym, or if you chose one of my online programs, I work with you, and around your circumstances to help you keep it simple. Life is complicated enough, and together we can do this.

Fat loss is not rocket science, please note that I did not say weight loss, because the two may not necessarily be the same. I prefer fat loss to weight loss because it means that the fat was replaced by increased muscle mass, and increased muscle mass means increased metabolism and increased muscle mass means? Lost fat.
